Our new season of Competitive Company is just around the corner!

It all begins with auditions on MONDAY, July 31st (details below)!

We are adding a new component to our competitive season this year called "Dew Drops"... this will be for Dancers between the ages of 4-6 and the average age between them needs to fall below 6.  The main objective of this group is to introduce them at a young age to 1-2 additional performance ("competition") opportunities in the local area in the Spring, in addition to the annual recital in May. We will set the stage for a fun-filled year of technique building while learning a jazz routine and then an additional ballet routine for the recital... very similar to a combo class, 2 costumes, 2 routines... but the difference is we'll take 1 routine to compete locally.  "Dew Drops" will be taught by me (Kelly Skaggs) on Monday Evenings from 5:30-6:30pm, ideally I would like no more than 10-11 dancers.  There are no formal auditions, but if you are interested PLEASE EMAIL ME... I would like to host aninformal meeting in my office regarding this on Monday, July 24th from 5:30-6:30pm.

Many have asked about our "Calm Program," at this time it has not been decided how many levels there will be because we haven't had auditions yet.  This group of dancers will typically be ages 9-18, last year we had this divided into 3 age groups for the season. All "Calm" dancers will take 2 ballet and 2 jazz tech classes and compete a lyrical and jazz routine, each having their own dedicated class time for choreography.  Based on last year, the groups attended 3-4 competitions and did not attend nationals.

Here are the other levels of that create our Competitive Company Program:

Sprinkles, ages 6-9 will meet 2 times per week and attend 3 competitions throughout the season

Raindrops, ages 8-11 will meet 2 times per week and attend 4-5 competitions throughout the season, participates at Nationals

Junior & Teen Thunder, ages 10-15 will meet 2 times per week and attend 4-5 competitions throughout the season, participates at Nationals

Lightning, ages 13-18 will meet 2 times per week and attend 4-5 competitions throughout the season, participates at Nationals

Pre-Pro, ages 11-18 will meet 4 times per week and 5-8 competitions/conventions throughtout the season, participates at Nationals

I'm sure you have a ton of questions and I'm happy to help!  If you are considering allowing your dancer (ideally dancers higher than the Dew Drops listed above) to audition, please join me for an informal meeting in my office at SODC on Monday, July 24th from 6:45-7:45pm.

AUDITIONS will be held on Monday, July 31st for the following age groups and times, cost is $25 per dancer.  All dancers need to bring payment, audition form and a 4x6 (NO LARGER, NO SMALLER) head shot (make sure your photo is current). Here is the breakdown of times:

SPECIAL GUEST ARTIST Kirsten Russell, born in Raleigh, North Carolina, began her journey dancing at 10 years old. While being a part of CC & Company Dance Complex for 8 years, she trained closely with choreographers such as Peter Chu, Martha Nichols, Jason Parsons, Lauren Adams, Travis Wall, Mandy Moore, Nick Lazzarini, Sonya Tayeh, Stacey Tookey, and Teddy Forance. Beginning at the age of 14, she expanded her training at summer intensives such as Common Arts Mutual Passion (CAMP), BodyTraffic, and Chuthis. While attending college at University of North Carolina School of the Arts, she got to continue her training outside of school under the direction of Peter Chu while assisting his second Chuthis Movement Intensive in Costa Rica. Upon leaving school she dove into creating, and began teaching and choreographing at her home studio, CC & Co. Dance Complex in Raleigh, North Carolina under the direction of Christy Curtis. Shortly after she began creating she was one of 19 choreographers chosen to compete as a finalist at the 2014 Capezio A.C.E. Awards in New York City. Inspired by her experience there, she entered again and was honored to be the winner of the 2015 Capezio A.C.E. Awards, which included $15,000 towards creating her own full length show, "Fell Only Once", which premiered in Long Beach, California in August of 2016 at DancerPalooza.. Since winning the A.C.E. Awards she has choreographed in multiple countries, featured work in Shelly Hutchinson's "The Giving Tree" in NYC, and is now a faculty member on JUMP Dance Convention. Most recently, Russell was interviewed and featured in Dance Teacher Magazine diving into the details of her process and choreographic experiences.

Your dancers WILL LOVE her classes offered, do not miss out on the incredible line up of choreographers headed our way!!!
